A pump house could have several functions which include channelling water from one location to another, helping with flood mitigation and pumping water to fill up a dam. In order to efficiently carry out these various functions, pump houses require high performance motor and a large team of knowledgeable workforce.

In the first quarter of 2019, KVC has completed a water pump house project in Penang. It was large scale project which took about 2 years to complete. KVC introduced the Smart Water Solution which included the 11kV Allen-Bradley Softstarter together with complete Motor Control Centre and Smart Logix Control System to the customer as they would like to have a solution to reduce unscheduled downtime especially for critical assets like pumps and motors.

The Smart Logix Control System helps to reduce unscheduled downtime at the plant level with Predictive Maintenance capability, whereby the condition of the pumps and motors can be actively monitored. Any abnormal condition that occurs will not only be predicted but also to alert users. Users are able to monitor the condition of the Motor Control Centre remotely and also to get the notifications as all the system information is shared in the Cloud. With the remote monitoring and notification, manpower that is required to run the pump house has been reduced. In summary, the total expenses of the company have been reduced by minimizing unscheduled downtime and maintenance cost.
